- CATEGORY OF DAONIL M 5/500 TABLETS:
- • Oral Anti-Diabetic Drugs
- MECHANISM OF ACTION OF GLIBENCLAMIDE & METFORMIN:
- • Like all sulfonylureas, Glibenclamide acts as an insulin secretagogue. It lowers blood sugar by stimulating the release of insulin by pancreatic beta cells and by inducing increased activity of intracellular insulin receptors
- • Metformin decreases blood glucose levels by decreasing hepatic glucose production (also called gluconeogenesis)
- • Metformin decreases the intestinal absorption of glucose
- • Metformin increases insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization
- NON-PHARMACOLOGICAL TREATMENTS & ADVICE FOR DIABETIC PATIENTS:
- • All carbohydrates affect blood glucose levels so it’s important to know which foods contain carbohydrates. Choose the healthier foods that contain carbs and be aware of your portion sizes.

- NORMAL RANGES:
- • Random blood sugar test: A blood sample will be taken at a random time. Regardless of when you last ate, a blood sugar level of 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or higher suggests diabetes. A blood sugar level of less than 140 mg/dL is normal. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes

- • It is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 (non-insulin-dependent). It is used when diet and exercising have failed to control your diabetes
- • This medicine is intended for adults only.

- • The usual starting dose is Glibenclamide 1.25 – 2.5 mg / Metformin 500 – 1000 mg. It is given once or twice daily.
- • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
- This medicine is intended for adults only.

- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Rash
- Headache
- Allergic reactions
- Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
- Lactic acidosis
